St. James Parish Traffic Warrants Explained
A traffic warrant is not the ticket itself. It is a court's next move against a driver who never answered one. Notice goes out first, and only after the person neither appears nor pays does the issuing court act. In St. James Parish, which court that is depends on where the citation was written. A Justice of the Peace, a town Mayor's Court, or the 23rd Judicial District Court can each hold the file, and the charge on the ticket plays a part too.
Citation, FTA, and St. James Warrants
The path from ticket to warrant is short. Trace it on paper in St. James Parish rather than guessing.
- An officer issues the citation and it names the court and the appearance date.
- The driver misses the date or does not pay within the court's notice period.
- The court may issue a warrant under its own procedure.
- The court may notify the Office of Motor Vehicles, which starts a separate compliance track.
- The driver resolves the matter with the court and obtains proof of that resolution.
Louisiana lets a court notify the state licensing agency after a failure to appear or pay: La. R.S. 32:57.1. That notice is what ties a St. James Parish ticket to a license hold.
Checking for a Traffic Warrant
No St. James Parish agency publishes a public traffic-warrant search. The citation is the best locator you have, because the court named on it holds the record. For a town ticket, call Gramercy Town Hall at (225) 869-4403 or Lutcher Town Hall at (225) 869-5823. For a JP ticket, call the issuing district. A district court matter goes through the clerk's criminal records line at (225) 562-2389 or (225) 562-2271. Each office can read the docket back to you.
Start with the court on the citation, not the licensing agency.
St. James Parish Warrants and OMV Fees
One payment rarely settles everything. A court fine belongs to the court that heard the ticket. A reinstatement or compliance fee belongs to the state licensing agency. The state separates the two and lists acceptable proof of compliance: a compliance letter with the ticket number, a paid receipt, a final disposition, or a continuance. See Office of Motor Vehicles suspension guidance.
Pay the court first, then send the court proof to the state.
Inside a Traffic Warrant Record
A traffic file returns citation-level detail, not a long narrative. When a St. James Parish court reads the record, these are the fields to note.
| Citation or Case Number | Often written as TR-2026-00456 on the paper and in the court index. |
|---|---|
| Person Named | The driver named on the citation. |
| Charge | The traffic statute or town ordinance named by the officer. |
| Issuing Court | The JP district, town Mayor's Court, or district court that will hear it. |
| Fine or Cost | The amount the court sets, which is separate from any licensing fee. |
| Status | Whether the docket shows a failure to appear, a warrant, or a resolution. |
Ask whether the court cost and the fine appear separately in the St. James Parish record. They often do.

| JP District 1 to 7 | Issuing district, payment or recall instructions | State Justice Court directory |

| Lutcher Mayor's Court | Town citation, docket, cost, and bail | Town Hall |
Note: The court, the serving agency, and the state licensing office in St. James Parish update on different schedules, so confirm each one separately.
How to Pay or Lift a Traffic Warrant
Payment is not automatically a recall. Some St. James Parish courts accept payment and close the matter, while others require an appearance first. The court named on the citation has the only reliable answer.
Caution: A payment made through a link or a third party is not proof that a warrant was recalled. Ask the court for a receipt or docket entry that shows the resolution.
If the amount is out of reach, ask about payment plans or a court date. Courts in St. James Parish handle those questions directly, and the answer shapes what happens to the warrant.
Gramercy Ticket Link and St. James Warrants
Gramercy's town site lists a Pay Ticket link, and that link has not been working, so no payment fields or lookup rules appear on it. The town may still take a payment in person or by phone. Call Town Hall and ask whether the online route is back, and whether paying through it resolves the citation or leaves the warrant standing. The Town of Gramercy meeting notice page is the town's own posting.
Ask whether payment closes the citation and any warrant with it.
Traffic Warrants, FTA, and License Holds
Three separate statuses get blended into one worry. Keeping them apart makes the phone calls in St. James Parish make sense.
| Status | Who Controls It | What Clears It |
|---|---|---|
| Open traffic warrant | The issuing court | Court action, payment, or appearance as ordered |
| Failure to appear | The issuing court docket | A court disposition, continuance, or compliance proof |
| License suspension | Office of Motor Vehicles | Court proof of compliance submitted to the state |
A suspension does not by itself prove an arrest warrant is active. A cleared warrant does not automatically restore a license in St. James Parish either.
Old Tickets and St. James Parish Warrants
An old citation has a way of surfacing at the worst moment. A stop for a tail light can end with an officer reading a failure-to-appear warrant from years back. If you find an old St. James Parish ticket, do not wait for a stop. Call the court, ask whether a warrant was issued, and ask what it takes to close the matter now.
St. James Parish Warrant and OMV Checks
Once the court side is handled, the licensing side follows its own process. Work it in order and keep every document from St. James Parish.
- Get the court's disposition, receipt, or compliance letter with the ticket number on it.
- Ask the court what exact wording the state requires on that proof.
- Submit the proof using the state's current compliance instructions.
- Ask the state whether it received the proof and what fee applies.
- Confirm with the court that the warrant and the docket entry now match your records.
Payments by gift card, wire, or cryptocurrency are a scam signal. Use the court's own number and the state's official site. The county warrant lookup page shows how the same checks work for other St. James Parish warrant types.
